Jochem Paap, who goes by the stage name of Speedy J is unanimously considered to be one of the first Techno producers from the Benelux. Together with people like Laurent Garnier, Aphex Twin and Richie Hawtin he helped raising the music genre just after it had escaped the Detroit delivery room. Since the early nineties Speedy J has been releasing his music on major labels and touring the world as a DJ. He is the founder of Electric Deluxe, a record label, event organisation and platform for artists. Jochem Paap was also the first electronic music artist to receive the ‘Emmy Ameling Prijs’, an award given to creative talent who makes an important contribution to the Rijnmond area in the field of music. Besides his activities as a DJ, Jochem Paap is a sound designer with multiple commercials and film scores signed to his name.
